A circumcision invitation is short but says a lot: the family’s joy, tradition, and the wish to gather everyone around the little boy. Here is ready-to-copy circumcision invitation wording for a Tunisian tahour, in English, French and Arabic, with how to write the programme and what to say on the day.

What the invitation includes

  1. An opening line — a blessing or a line of joy.
  2. Who invites — the parents or the family, on the child’s behalf.
  3. The boy’s name — he is the star of the day.
  4. The programme — the henna the night before if you announce it, then the celebration: day, time, place.
  5. A closing line — “Your presence will make our joy complete.”

English wording

  • “Mr and Mrs Mohamed Ben Salah are delighted to invite you to the circumcision celebration of their son Youssef, on Sunday 16 August at 5 pm, at the family home.”
  • “With great joy and God’s blessing, we invite you to celebrate the tahour of our dear son Youssef.”
  • “Join us for a precious family moment as we celebrate our son’s circumcision.”

Arabic and French wording

  • “تتشرّف عائلة بن صالح بدعوتكم لحضور حفل طهور ابنها يوسف.” — The Ben Salah family are honoured to invite you to the circumcision celebration of their son Youssef.
  • “بشرى سارّة وفرحة كبيرة، تتشرّف عائلتنا بدعوتكم لحضور حفل طهور ابننا.” — Good news and great joy: our family is honoured to invite you to our son’s tahour.
  • “C’est avec une immense joie et la bénédiction de Dieu que nous vous invitons à la circoncision de notre cher fils Youssef.”

The programme and what to say

Give each event its own line — “Youssef’s henna — Saturday 15 August, 7 pm, family home”, then the celebration. To congratulate the family, say “mabrouk et-thour” (congratulations on the tahour) and “rabbi ykhallihoulkom” (may God keep him for you); the parents reply “allah ybarek fik”. The traditions of the day are in our guide to the Tunisian circumcision party, and invi.tn has a design made for a tahour (TAHOUR) in the catalogue.

Frequently asked questions

Who invites on a circumcision invitation?

The parents or the family, on behalf of the child.

Should I write “circumcision” or “tahour”?

Both work. “Circumcision celebration” is clearest in English; “tahour” or “thour” is the Tunisian word that families will recognise.

What do you say to the parents?

“Mabrouk et-thour” — congratulations on the tahour — and “rabbi ykhallihoulkom”, may God keep him for you.
